Savvy

Law, Ingrid (2008). Savvy. New York, New York: Dial Books for Young Readers.
This clever book has a very powerful message: Don't listen to other peoples' voices in your head. Find your own voice and listen to it. There is also a line in the book when Mibs tells herself that others should not give away their power. This book is about an amazing family with amazing powers. (Think The Incredibles) All of the family members over thirteen have a special power that is theirs alone. It is powerful and each of them needs to learn how to control the power so that it does not control them. Mibs power is the ability to "hear" what people are thinking if they have any ink on their body. This gives her insight into why people are the way that they are. By listening to others' voices, Mibs learns to listen to her own.
