Ryan, Pam Munoz (2004). Becoming Naomi Leon. New York, New York: Scholastic Press.
I love how Pam Munoz Ryan speaks with such voice in her books. All of the characters are quirky yet totally believable. This is another story about a girl who is finding her voice. This is such an important theme for upper elementary school kids. So often they are bombarded with so many conflicting voices from so many different sources that they do not know what to believe or which voice to listen to. This story touched my heart too because a family can look so many different ways. It is worrisome the way that so many courts lean toward giving the biological parents the rights of the children when that situation is not right for them. Pam Munoz Ryan is my new favorite author for sure!
