Verdi is a young python sent out into the world. Right now he is a beautiful yellow color with black spots. As his mom sends him off she tells him to grow up big and green. Verdi wonders why a python would want to be green, so he decides to talk to the older greener pythons. Verdi discovers that they are boring and rude! Verdi does not want to turn green, but one day he discovers a green patch. this leads to several adventures as he tries to escape his greeness. After injuring himself, Verdi finds himself splinted to a branch to heal and is forced to listen to the old greens talk.He found out that once they were young and energetic like him. Later when Verdi is older and greener, two young pythons come by. To their surprise and delight he plays with them, and Verdi realizes that he can still be himself no matter what his outsides look like.
The color of this book mimics the lush greeness of the rain forest where Verdi lives. There is a great deal of action in the pictures as Verdi is flipping around from place to place helping the reader move along with him.
