This is the first book in a series of eight books. These books tell about the life of the author from when she was a little girl in the Big Woods of Minnesota through her marriage and adult family life. Each chapter of this book shares a specific memory that Laura has living in Minnesota. There are a lot of details that tell how every day chores were accomplished. This book chronicles a year of time. We learn a lot about Laura, her Ma and Pa, her older sister Mary and her baby sister Carrie. This book along with the other tells what life was like over one hundred years ago.
Obviously the setting for these books is what creates such interest. Ingalls chronicles all of the details of daily life from one hundred years ago. These detailed descriptions are related with such accuracy that the reader feels like she or he was there with the family.
