This beautifully illustrated book tells the story of the Miller's sons. The Miller died and left his youngest son a cat. But what a clever cat it was. It asked for a sack and a pair of boots. It went on to increase the son's fortune by being clever and somewhat ruthless. The son ends up marrying the princess, and Puss lives happily ever after.
The style of these illustrations is so fitting to the period that it is set in. They look like oil paintings in an art museum. The illustrations depict action. Even with minimal text the story is well told with the illustrations, and they are what move the story forward.
