The Magic Box

The Magic Box. By Dale Bulla. Illus. by Rebecca Arkenberg. 1998. 32 p. New Horizons Educational Press, $6.99 (1884197043)
Gr. 1-5. This a tale of two foolish people that find a magic box. Anything that is put in the box multiplies. At first they put in things that they are able to sell. When a coin falls in the box, they end up with coins, so many in fact, that they spend all their time counting money. The story becomes crazy when grandfather dies and falls into the box. The foolish people go back to their old life. This humorous story demonstrates supply and demand. It is also good for discussing the value of money versus the quality of life.
